El Sol or The Sun- this coffee comes from Vides Farms in La Libertad, Huehuetenango in Guatemala. Vides Farms is family coffee business that own and operate 6 farms. The company works hard to improve farming practices, both in terms of sustainability and yield and profitability. To this end they have achieved Rainforest Alliance certification (RFA) and are exporting to great specialty importers like Falcon (who we bought this lot from).
This particular lot comes from their farm Finca La Bolsa which sits at an altitude of between 1300 to 1600 meters above sea level. They primarily grow Caturra and Bourbon.
We’re all really enjoying this coffee, it’s got great body and loads of sweetness which is a hallmark of great Guatemalan coffee. The name The Sun is a nod to the natural drying process as the coffee is laid out on large patios to dry in direct sunlight.
