This is one of three new Ethiopian coffees we've just bought from the Daye Bensa cooperative in Sidamo. The name 'Peaberry' is a perfect description... these coffee beans are probably the tiniest and most adorable you've ever seen! They may be cute, but they pack a flavour punch, too, with sweet, fruity notes of Mango, Papaya, and Apple Blossom.
Meaning 'serpent' in the local language, Hamasho is an area well known for its exquisite coffee. It is a highland found in Arbegona in the southern area of Sidama Region; Arbegona is one of thirty districts in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Sidama Zone, it is bordered on the south by Bona Zuria, on the southwest by Bursa, on the northwest by Gorche, on the north by the Oromia Region, and on the east by Bensa. The major town in Arbegona is Arbegona.
We love buying coffee from Daye Bensa, an amazing business with strong community orientation. They deliver bonus payments to farmers based on the volume they contribute to microlots, and the consistency of bean quality throughout the years is also rewarded.
