An up-and-coming coffee farmer in the Oaxaca region of Mexico, Ana Patricia embodies the fresh outlook and tenacity of a new generation of producers. We're delighted to support her work as she seeks to renew her family's coffee legacy and, in turn, her wider community. Ana Patricia's lots are produced with thoughtfulness and innovation, and this tasty anaerobic washed is no exception. It shines brightly with clean yet grounded notes of lemon-lime, apricot, and hojicha tea ... less acidic than some of our other "green" category coffees, with a gentle, rounded effervescence.
This coffee was sourced through Ensambles, our main Mexican coffee supplier. We love the way they support farmers in Mexico, and they've been working with Ana Patricia to help her gain confidence, knowledge, and technical skills for the past two years.
Here's some more from Ensambles on Ana Patricia below:
Ana Patricia Bolaños, a 28-year-old Mazatec woman, works on her father’s farm, Agua de Cueva, which is a small two-hectare plot named after the community where it’s located. For her, coffee is more than just a crop — it’s a part of her identity, a deep connection between her family and the land. With each harvest, she looks for the perfect balance between traditional practices and innovation while trying to reach markets that value both the quality and cultural roots of her coffee.
Ana grows her coffee plants using a rustic system, where the coffee coexists with timber trees that provide shade, creating a harmonious environment between the crop and nature. Next to her coffee plot, she also grows a "milpa" or field of corn, which serves as a source of food for her family.
Because she hasn’t been doing this for long, some people doubt the quality of Ana Patricia's work and the new methods she uses. However, the support from the Ensambles team, led by Osiris Martínez, and the great results from her harvest have helped boost her enterprise. We're delighted to add our support as well.
